From Wakaf Bharu, the station for Kota Bharu, the Jungle Railway heads inland up the river valleys of Kelantan to the limestone town of Gua Musang. Most trains are the Shuttle Timur, a diesel unit that stops at every station; the Ekspres Rakyat Timuran also runs this way overnight.
Up into the Kelantan rainforest
Leaving the coastal plain, the line heads into forest and small villages along the rivers of the interior. Dabong, a stop on the way, is the access point for Gunung Stong State Park and the Jelawang Waterfall. Gua Musang was reached by the last section of the line to open, in 1931.
