The Johor Bahru to Gemas train, up close.
From JB Sentral, next to the Causeway, the electrified double track runs about 192 km north to Gemas. ETS trains have used it since 12 December 2025, so you can now leave Johor Bahru on a fast electric train instead of the old diesel.
Fast train or night train
Most departures from JB Sentral are electric ETS trains, fast and air-conditioned. The other is the Ekspres Rakyat Timuran, which turns off at Gemas onto the Jungle Railway and carries on overnight to Kelantan: slower, with sleeper berths and the cheapest fares.
